This blog is turning into more of a monthly thing than a daily or even weekly thing. Wonderful.<div><br /></div><div>Anyway. I wanted to start doing a turtle. I searched </div><div>for patterns, but...there were none that looked like what I wanted. Which was this.</div><img src="http://www.sellstuff.cc/item-img/B00001QECE.jpg" /><img src="http://www.cuddlycollectibles.com/TY/Beanies/Reptiles/TY04030SpeedyTurtleBB.jpg" /><img src="http://tomopop.com/ul/21584-550x-speedy1.jpg" /><br />So. Right. I wanted to crochet something like that (except with a dark green shell and lime green limbs), but there were no patterns. <div><br /></div><div>Started to freeform the shell. Got the shell done, got stuck deciding how to continue (different colors, how to do the limbs, etc.), then decided to work on the limbs. Got the head done just fine, and made up a pattern for the legs, so I still have two legs and </div><div>the tail left to do. But while I was deciding where to go next, I threaded twist ties through the turtle shell where the limbs would go...like this:</div><div><br /></div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVMUHNm8JH5BniPpFE2A5MlXeRyL0VKNMLpCJ5j6nXwkuU2PHDVTtDK2pG5jazWtvHwa0fBShPvWQIrVCNLSNSss456TjSjrzrrNDHZRXVkhsksvAFZ1qqouxoT-JJFKALB1_YWJh1yO4C/s200/turtle+skeleton.jpg" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422628619203026386" /><div style="text-align: center;">(like the ukulele in the background? :D)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Then I made the lime-green limbs and put them under the twist ties so they would stay. Once I get the lower shell done (it'll probably be tan, sort of a camel color), I'll sew that onto the top shell and through the limbs, effectively securing the limbs.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">How's your 2010 going?</div>Beehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13225798691007360634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1796354420108568495.post-58280781684168766272009-12-01T19:42:00.003-05:002009-12-01T19:54:44.528-05:00It's December.Well, damn.<div><br /></div><div>I was going to post yesterday and be all, "I missed a whole bunch of days, but I'm ending November with a BAM!"</div><div><br /></div><div>Yeah, no.</div><div><br /></div><div>I don't have a picture of the devil because I sent it out before I could take a picture. The finished gloves. </div><div><br /></div><div>ETA: I really wanted to get this in before 12:00 so it wouldn't be late. XD It wasn't...so I'm updating now.</div><div><br /></div><div>I finally finished the fingerless gloves, which makes me extremely happy because they are the first project that I have managed to actually finish in a while. And now I'm starting a pair for myself, so hopefully this pair will be the same way.</div><div><br /></div><div>Also, they do look a bit short at first, but they were made for a 5-year-old girl, so they're about medium-length on her.</div><div><br /></div><div>I sort of used a pattern, but there were differences...like the fact that I started with a rectangle, then connected the sides halfway up so there's a slit. If I can find a few buttons, I'll put them on, but for now they'll do.</div><div><br /></div><div>So that's the fingerless gloves...yay! Bye. :D</div>Beehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13225798691007360634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1796354420108568495.post-36777239264270015612009-11-07T00:14:00.000-05:002009-11-07T00:23:15.112-05:00Whoops...day 6, I guess.<div>Again? Really?</div><div><br /></div><div>But I was so busy crocheting this that I didn't even think about my devil.</div><div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYD-TbbUaQO8Hi00DyDuBc6TqEEPa8YK7ePm7Qtk9DhlDCQvlIo6YMZAVd2f2NUW-kQhbtpoA1R6QMBSI7E6OEivb8uopK9SDheQfJgCx59oafyPWivy3pcXtEnLHlfwcJ37b9qbpQvqBy/s1600-h/first+glove.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYD-TbbUaQO8Hi00DyDuBc6TqEEPa8YK7ePm7Qtk9DhlDCQvlIo6YMZAVd2f2NUW-kQhbtpoA1R6QMBSI7E6OEivb8uopK9SDheQfJgCx59oafyPWivy3pcXtEnLHlfwcJ37b9qbpQvqBy/s320/first+glove.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5401226415412989666" /></a><div>I know, I know...another project. But I got my CrochetMe More email today...and it had designs for fingerless gloves...what's a girl to do? I got out my burnt-orangey yarn, found a pattern, modified it to fit my sister (that's why it's so small, FYI), and crocheted for a solid block of about two hours. Crochet, fix mistakes, crochet, repeat. </div><div><br /></div><div>So that's the first fingerless glove. As far as I know, it should fit at least from the bottom to the base of her thumb - I had her try it on at a few intervals while making it - so hopefully it will be okay.</div><div><br /></div><div>Also, I used <a href="http://crochetme.com/patterns/zebra-multi-color-armies-wrist-warmer">this pattern on CrochetMe</a> and altered it a bit to make it work. For example...I started out with 32 chains instead of 20, which in the end was a huge mistake because there's a huge swell in the middle, but it somehow eventually worked out so that it was exactly 19...which is exactly what the pattern called for.</div><div><br /></div><div>I do have to go now, though, as it's almost 12:30 and I'm getting really tired. I hope you enjoyed my longer-than-normal post...see you later. </div><div><br /></div><div>:)<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></div>Beehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13225798691007360634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1796354420108568495.post-72974911840170625732009-11-06T00:28:00.000-05:002009-11-06T00:32:06.738-05:00Ah, boo. Day 5...meh.So, I know, it's not technically Day 5 anymore. And so it begins...this may very well be the first of a few missed posts. Just like last year. Coincidentally, going through my attempt at NaBloPoMo from last year was what caused me to miss the fact that the days changed.<div><br />Apart from that, though...I'm almost finished with the devil's head. Next up is the tail. I'm looking forward to the accessories, although the head and body fit perfectly in my palms, which I <i>love.</i> My ninja (Shinobi) and my crocheting buddy, Tiny the Beanie Baby chihuahua, are the same way. They fit perfectly. It's like a hug from my palm. XD</div><div><br /></div><div>I'm going to go to bed or something now...it's after 12:30. I need to be up and ready at 7:00. So she came to Cincinnati last Thursday, and as I had my tickets a few months in advance, I decided to crochet a mini-her based on a photo from a show at NYC's City Winery. And this doll is the product of my efforts. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I crocheted the body and head from the pattern for the Corporate Zombie in, yes, Christen Haden's Creepy Cute Crochet. I made hair from my own design, and I sewed the hat over that. I made the scarf with a D hook, red yarn, and a 3-stitch-wide improv and sewed that on, then bent some wire for her glasses.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">And that is the story of my cute (yet very stalker-like) Ingrid Michaelson doll.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Cheers!</div>Beehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13225798691007360634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1796354420108568495.post-47173335102908682412009-11-02T23:30:00.001-05:002009-11-02T23:34:33.606-05:00Day 2<div style="text-align: left;">What I accomplished today and yesterday:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHta8otFueEHEd6owC2htC_FIhjLuOugXq_i-JWpreq5sq6IHuU0zcD52AKF_jc9FD8cDKRf9AlNQKYd5w1_mGz3gjAJkVKDdeKXcRm032GkmNezoTp_XKBmZQV_dOgHxLrf2KJFLYoc5H/s200/devil+body.jpg" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5399730328462300722" /></div><div style="text-align: left;">^^ The first (and slightly worse) picture I took.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVOMURiUgMmSkM8fkfgh9NilCCv0rCcarN4QRfJkyHU1o1wM4XPt7yVC31JoiXOLMsrlpAfP0e8rkTxGnyJkpSz5-bLYFVULXVHw6lnRwObMJ7ZWZ6c1MBFB9nvEwqA2mJ_nBq8ieu1iqp/s200/devil+body+2.jpg" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5399730324675316146" /><div style="text-align: left;">The second - this one is much better.</div><br /><div>This is the body of the devil from Creepy Cute Crochet by Christen Haden, in case you haven't read yesterday's post. So far, all my hats have come out weirdly shaped and not even looking like they're supposed to. I've only tried beanies, but they've all come out looking like berets.<br /><br />I'm hoping this one will be different.<br /><br />I'm using Caron Simply Soft Brites! in Lemonade, which is a buttery, sunny sort of color. I'm not sure if this yarn is even produced anymore, but I got it from a flea market, so if it isn't, that's why. :D<br /><br />Pictures may come soon. Hopefully this will turn out better. Well, the body did. It took me an hour to get his little shuriken right and to sew it on. His face was about half an hour total, and the sash only took about 15 minutes, so altogether I think I spent about 6 to 7 hours on him. I'm proud of him, though. He's one of my crocheting buddies. Obviously, there are some exceptions, but still...they don't even bother to ask "What are you doing?" They just say, "Oh, you're knitting!..." blah blah blah.<br /><br />Other than that, I have pictures of things I've done (and can find :D ) so far:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_9O0tcnao5N2zaOWwC0ADr665E79yT84Re033YkZ3NYGNEXBpLmKe2ZL3RqCH4j2yYLJZD2wlBtvaiFPRUfZBE8lyIpeZc50WMZyWwJkSVdSErNcBdt8m17Cz48FtRoMzLXe7_yEfKtF-/s1600-h/IMG_0384.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_9O0tcnao5N2zaOWwC0ADr665E79yT84Re033YkZ3NYGNEXBpLmKe2ZL3RqCH4j2yYLJZD2wlBtvaiFPRUfZBE8lyIpeZc50WMZyWwJkSVdSErNcBdt8m17Cz48FtRoMzLXe7_yEfKtF-/s320/IMG_0384.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5364854704108688882" border="0" /></a>That is the head (finished and stuffed) to the bear I'm making for the neighborhood garage sale in September. Pattern-wise, though...well, it was supposed to look SO much different. This could be partially due to the fact that only at about the 19th round did I realize I was actually slip-stitching instead of singling. Ah well...pattern is <a href="http://crochetme.com/cranium">here</a> if you want to make it.<br /><br />Also, does anyone else notice that if you upload pictures, they always go to the top and you have to move them? It's annoying me, so...I don't know. Help if you can? Haha...<br /><br />xo<br /><br />BeeBeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13225798691007360634noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1796354420108568495.post-71711320851592138112009-07-27T19:16:00.000-04:002009-07-27T20:52:54.009-04:00Hey there. So, introductions.<br /><br />I'll go by Bee for the purposes of this blog.<br /><br />I crochet mainly, as it's my favorite craft now, but I also knit a bit. I don't have many knitting supplies though (besides yarn), so I don't do that as much. I've been doing lots of amigurumi, but I'm now branching out--I finished a hat the other day, and I want to make more hats and maybe a large bag to keep my yarn in.<br /><br />Ah, yarn...how I love thee. My favorite yarn is Lion Brand Vanna's Choice in either Black or White. I don't like wool too much, but I do use acrylic, and I like cotton as well. I haven't tried any homespun yet, so I have no idea what that's like, but for now, I like my acrylic-and-cotton comfort zone. :)<br /><br />On to hooks...<br /><br />In my bag at the moment are a shiny pink-purple F/3.75mm, a shiny gold G/4.00mm, a duller metallic blue hook that says I but looks more like an H/5.00mm, and a dull gold I/5.5mm hook. I thought I had a J somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. Hey, maybe it's only in my imagination! Ha.<br /><br />Now that you've heard enough about my crafting (for now!), you can learn a bit about me as a person. I love colors like a light sky or aqua blue, as well as darker midnight blues. I love textures, and if something looks interesting, I'll try to see what it feels like. I'm a very curious person, and I like to think about how things work. I've recently encountered the wonderfulness that is Pokemon, and they are SO fun to crochet if I can find a pattern! Plus they're really cute. :D I like strange things, like drawing on my feet and tracing words on my arm. I love words, actually. I like twisting words around, making up new words...words. And music. Music, quite simply, is my life. I joke that I haven't gone five minutes of my life without being involved in music in some way, whether it be actually singing, playing, listening, or just having a song stuck in my head. There really isn't much I can say about music. It's just...me.<br /><br />But that's about it. Or it's at least as much as I care to share right now. So I'll put up projects and pictures when I get around to it, and for now...adios!Beehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13225798691007360634noreply@blogger.com0
